Why should you try ice coffee, and how to make it tasty?

Where did the concept of iced coffee originate?

It is difficult to say who was the first to think of adding ice to the coffee, but in the 17th century, the Dutch colonists of the East India Company escaped from the heat with chilled coffee. In Europe, a similar coffee-based drink came into fashion in the 40s of the 19th century and was then called mazagran, and necessarily added sweet syrup to it.

The great writer Honore de Balzac noted that coffee brewed with cold water gave him much more energy. Scientists agreed with the writer that there is more caffeine in cold coffee than in classic coffee.

The name “ice coffee” appeared around the 20s of the last century, when a similar drink appeared in large fast food chains: Burger King, Starbucks, and others.

Of course, each country has its traditions of cooking, as well as serving ice coffee:

  • In Australia, it with whipped cream and ice cream;
  • In Canada, such coffee (ice caps) is made based on cappuccino;
  • In Chile, ice coffee (cafe helado) is espresso with ice cream, vanilla, and cinnamon;
  • In Germany, iced coffee or eiskaffee with whipped cream;
  • In India, ice coffee is prepared in a blender from instant coffee with cold or frozen milk;
  • In Japan, ice coffee with syrup and milk;
  • In Slovenia, the drink is called ledena kava, and it is a double espresso with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, decorated with almond chips or grated chocolate;
  • In Sri Lanka, the obligatory ingredient of ice coffee is cognac. Such a drink at weddings.

Classic ice coffee recipe

The classic recipe uses coffee, milk, cream, and ice.

What we cook from:

  • Black coffee, 50 ml
  • Milk, 100 ml
  • Cream, 40 grams
  • Ice, four cubes

How to cook:

  • We cook coffee and cool
  • The cream, whisk
  • In the coffee, pour the milk
  • Into a glass, spread ice, and run the coffee-milk mixture
  • On top, spread the whipped cream
  • Decorate with ground cinnamon or grated chocolate if desired

Ice-Thai coffee

This recipe came to us from hot Thailand, where people know a lot about soft drinks.

What we cook from:

  • Espresso, 4 cups
  • Cream, 2 cups
  • Condensed milk, 3/4 cup
  • Coconut sugar, 5 grams
  • Ground cardamom, 2 tsp
  • Ice
  • Almonds, 10 grams

How to cook:

  • Pour cream into a saucepan, add crushed coconut sugar;
  • Send cardamom to the same place, heat everything over low heat;
  • So when the mixture reaches a boil, remove it from the pot and turn off the heat;
  • The almonds from the stove, peel them, fry them in a dry pan and grind them into powder in a blender;
  • Take 4 cups, pour out the cream equally;
  • Also, distribute espresso;
  • Pour ice and decorate coffee with ground cinnamon.

Ice Mocha

What we cook from:

  • Espresso, one serving
  • Of milk, 150 ml
  • Chocolate syrup, 20 ml
  • Whipped cream, 50 grams
  • Vanilla ice cream, 50 grams
  • Chocolate chips, 10 grams
  • Crushed ice

How to cook:

  • We cool the brewed espresso;
  • In a blender, mix milk, ice cream, ice, chocolate syrup, and coffee;
  • Beat everything well until smooth;
